F.A.Q. External confidential advisor

What is an external confidential advisor?

An external confidential advisor is someone you can approach in confidence with concerns or conflicts at work. For example, in situations involving unwanted behaviour, intimidation, bullying, or other issues that affect you. A confidential advisor is someone who listens actively and can offer guidance or refer you to the right support.

In which situations can I reach out to the external confidential advisor?

The confidential advisor is there for you as an employee when you have experienced unwanted behaviour at work. This could be for example bullying, (sexual) harassment, discrimination, aggression, or violence. You can also reach out to the confidential advisor regarding integrity issues, such as suspected fraud.

Am I in the right place?

If you are dealing with an issue that is difficult to discuss with others, such as colleagues, friends, or family, a confidential advisor may be the right person to talk to. The confidential advisor can support you with matters that disturb the atmosphere at work or when you feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Is it safe to share my story?

Yes, everything you share with the confidential advisor is treated with strict confidentiality. The confidential advisor has a duty of confidentiality, which means that what you discuss will not be shared without your permission, except in situations where it is necessary to protect your safety or the safety of others, for example in cases of serious abuse or danger.

What will happen with my story after I shared it with the confidential advisor?

The conversations with the confidential advisor are confidential. The advisor can provide guidance on possible next steps you can take, such as having a conversation with the people involved or reporting your concerns to the appropriate parties. The confidential advisor will support you throughout the process, but it is entirely up to you whether to take further action, and which steps to take.

What if I am not sure whether I should contact the confidential advisor?

If you are unsure, it is often a good idea to reach out and explore your options. The confidential advisor is there to support you in finding a solution that works best for you or refer you to the right person.
